Asseco to launch LTE in Wołomin
Asseco Poland, acting as the consortium leader, will execute a project involving the construction of a radio broadband network based on the LTE technology for Wołomin Municipality. The contract is worth PLN 2.3 million gross and also includes the supply of 200 computers for families being at risk of digital exclusion.
The agreement has been concluded following a tendering procedure. The consortium of Asseco Poland (leader) and Viatelecome company submitted the best price offer. The contract involves the construction of telecommunications infrastructure – LTE radio broadband network including a number of access nodes, sufficient to provide coverage for at least 90% of the inhabited area of Wołomin Municipality. This investment project is scheduled for completion in December 2014.
The contract is part of the project called “Internet as an opportunity for the development of Wołomin Municipality” which is implemented under the “Innovative Economy Operational Programme 2007-2013”. Upon its completion, Wołomin will join the group of big Polish cities that can boast of having LTE broadband Internet networks.
“By undertaking this project, we intended primarily to ensure equal opportunities for the poorest families. We are glad that Internet and computers will be provided to those families in which basic needs, such as clothing, food and books are a spending priority, yet parents are aware that participation in the digital society is very important for the future of their children. By investing in their development, in their future, we help the whole community. In my opinion, this is the best use of EU funds you can imagine,” said Ryszard Madziar, Mayor of Wołomin.
The main objective of the project is to provide free Internet access for the residents of Wołomin Municipality who are at risk of digital exclusion due to either difficult financial situation of their households or disability. 200 families will be provided with computers and computer trainings, free of charge. This project will enhance the chances of its participants for greater participation in social and economic life, improve their material status, and ensure access to information and services distributed electronically. In addition, LTE broadband Internet will enable further computerization of the municipality and development of e-services offered to 50 thousand inhabitants of Wołomin Municipality.
“High-tech companies most frequently implement projects where information technology is not easily noticeable, being covered with business objectives. The more willingly we get involved in the initiatives that bring tangible benefits for citizens. Asseco cooperates in the construction of broadband networks with multiple local governments. These include large urban centers, such as Radom, Elbląg or Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, but also smaller, rural and urban municipalities which understand that modern infrastructure is the key to development. We would very much appreciate if Asseco’s high competence in the field of telecommunications technology could serve important social matters as often as possible,” says Andrzej Dopierała, Vice President of Asseco Poland.
