MITEX S.A. is one of the leading construction companies at the Polish market. It has been operating for almost 20 years and it employs about 650 people. MITEX is a specialist general contractor rendering construction services, mainly in the area of building sport facilities, apartment houses, offices, trade facilities and hotels. It also carries out investment connected with environment protection and infrastructure.

MITEX S.A. belongs to one of the biggest construction groups in Europe – the French Eiffage Group, which employs 50 thousand people. It has a representative in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Great Britain, the Benelux States and Poland. The turnover of the Group amounted in 2005 to EURO 8 billion.

Challenge

For many years MITEX S. A. has used various nonintegrated IT solutions which quickly proved to be of low efficiency for work in a big and quickly developing company. Therefore, because of a quick development and, as a consequence, because of the need to have a quick access to complete and reliable analytical information, the company required an implementation of a comprehensive IT system which would be used in the whole company (the head offices, branches and all construction sites).

An additional stimulus to implement an integrated system was the need to quickly and effectively report within the Eiffage Group. Thus, the company faced a necessity to choose a deliverer who would offer a solution fulfilling all needs of the multibranch company functioning within an international Capital Group not only in the area of a classic ERP system but first of all in the area of specialist modules and functionalities fulfilling specific needs of the construction branch.

Solution

After implementation it was expected that a solution would be introduced which not only supports settlement of all run investment projects but also joins all aspects of the company’s activities into one efficient whole. Another important aspect was to make it possible to process all transactions and processes in real time (especially on construction sites) and to automate the routine and repeatable activities. However, the most important need was preparation and implementation of specialist functionalities for the construction branch. The implementation covered the following modules: General Ledger, Finances, Projects, Assets, Trade, Logistics, Business Analyses and Management of Warehouse, HR and Payment. 152 licenses were bought for simultaneous system users. The implementation began in July 2004. In January 2005 the system was started. To fulfill the most important requirements of MITEX specific adaptations for the construction branch were introduced to the Dynamix AX system:

  • recording of contracts and settlement of investor and subcontractor deposits
  • construction sale with consideration of special tax conditions
  • an additional module was programmed, settling equipment and tool rental for responsible individuals and construction sites
  • a system of mutual internal settlements was prepared within the scope of construction orders
  • a solution was drawn up, making it possible to introduce and control a budget of a construction site prepared in a specific form by MITEX
  • a system of monitoring documents recorded in branches and their endorsement was prepared
  • tools for automated retrieving data from fuel distributors and telephones and transferring it to the system were programmed

Benefits

Owing to the implemented solutions, full analytical and synthetic information of orders was gained. All MITEX branches which previously have worked on separate systems have been connected to one common “body” working in real time. One of the great benefits arising from the implementation of the Microsoft Dynamics AX system is its incredible flexibility which allows to precisely adapt the system to the needs of the company and thus protects it against the need to adapt its business to the rules governing the system.

Both the system (Microsoft Dynamics AX) and ASSECO POLAND S.A. fulfilled the requirements of this difficult situation despite the fact that restructuring was not assumed in the process of implementation. One of the biggest advantages of the implemented system is very well organized and adapted functionalities enabling a meticulous management and settlement of run construction sites. An additional strong point of the system is its international functions, and mainly a possibility to use a few dozen language interfaces (which in the case of an international corporation is very important). The result of implementation is the satisfaction of the team engaged in works on the project and the satisfaction of target users who work with this application.
